Background: The Octeon family of SOCs has a variety of on-chip
controllers for Ethernet, MDIO, I2C, and several other I/O devices.
These chips are used on boards with a great variety of different
configurations. To date, the configuration and bus topology
information has been hard coded in the drivers and support code.
To facilitate supporting new chips and boards, we would like to make
use use the Device Tree to encode the configuration information.
I would like to get some feedback on the current code I am working
with. The migration approach is as follows:
o A device tree template is statically linked into the kernel image.
Based on SOC type and board type, legacy configuration probing code
is used to prune and patch the device tree template.
o New SOCs and boards will directly use a device tree passed by the
bootloader.
1/6 - Infrastructure to allow scripts/dtc/libfdt to be used in the
kernel.
2/6 - OF patch to simplify of_find_node_by_path().
3/6 - Add the statically linked Device Tree templates and bindings
descriptions.

libfdt is part of the device tree support in scripts/dtc/libfdt. For
some platforms that use the Device Tree, we want to be able to edit
the flattened device tree form.
We don't want to burden kernel builds that do not require it, so we
gate compilation of libfdt files with CONFIG_LIBFDT. So if it is
needed, you need to do this in your Kconfig:
select LIBFDT
And in the Makefile of the code using libfdt something like:

'/', indicating a full path to the desired node.
Augment the look-up code so that if a path does *not* begin with '/',
the path is used as the name of an /aliases property. The value of
this alias is then used as the full node path to be found.

This is a revision of my main device-tree definitions from my previous
RFC. I wanted to get feedback on my changes to several bindings
before I set them in stone.
The changes are to bootbus.txt, compact-flash.txt and dma-engine.txt.
Basically there are a ton of parameters needed to initialize the boot
bus, and I just stuck them all in there. Is this the best way to
handle something like this?

OK I added the "cavium," part. I want to keep the name suffixes as
they are, as they correspond exactly to the terminology in the
Hardware Reference Manuals.
How about something like this:
* Boot Bus
The Octeon Boot Bus is a configurable parallel bus with 8 chip
selects. Each chip select is independently configurable.
Properties:
- compatible: "cavium,octeon-3860-bootbus"
Compatibility with all cn3XXX, cn5XXX and cn6XXX SOCs.
- reg: The base address of the Boot Bus' register bank.
- #address-cells: Must be <2>. The first cell is the chip select
within the bootbus. The second cell is the offset from the chip select.

You did ask, I forget if I answered.
Within the CIU there is really no concept of high and low. They are
just bits in some registers, and the interrupt handling code knows how
to deal with them.
Interrupt lines that leave the chip are specified in the
cavium,octeon-3860-gpio controller below, and do have edge/level
high/low configuration there.

Right. I don't know what it is yet.
I put the 2nd. cell there because "fsl,mpc8347-gpio" has it.
There are programmable glitch filters, signal inversion and several
other parameters that may need to be set, but I am not sure the best
