Subject: [PATCH v4 0/7] Add Mediatek MT8173 subsystem clocks support

This patchset is based on 4.2-rc1 and [1], and contains subsystem
clocks support for Mediatek MT8173.

Previous reviews can be found in [2][3]. This patchset merge the 2
patchsets because of the dependency.

The most different from previous patchset are removing clk_null and
split usb clock support into a separated source file.

changes since v3:
- Remove clk_null dependency from root clocks.
- Use fixed-rate clocks with typical rate to replace clk_null.
- Add clk-apmixed.c to implement ref2usb_tx.
- Use clock-controller as the name of clock providers.

changes since v2:
- Rebase to 4.2-rc1.
- Add device tree nodes for subsystem clocks.
- Fine tune comments of patches.
- Add __init, __initconst and const to init data and functions.
- Removed unused code from init functions of subsystem clocks.

changes since v1:
- Add CA7PLL and CA15PLL as critical clocks.
- Use the same register descriptor for imgsys, vensys and vencltsys.
- Generalize apmixedsys special clocks registration.

Remove the dependency from clk_null, and give all root clocks a
typical rate, include clkph_mck_o, usb_syspll_125m and hdmitx_dig_cts.

dpi_ck was removed due to no clock reference to it.

Replace parent clock of infra_cpum with cpum_ck, which is an external
clock and can be defined in the deivce tree.

Subject: [PATCH v4 3/7] clk: mediatek: mt8173: Fix enabling of critical clocks

From: Sascha Hauer <[email protected]>

On the MT8173 the clocks are provided by different units. To enable
the critical clocks we must be sure that all parent clocks are already
registered, otherwise the parents of the critical clocks end up being
unused and get disabled later.

On MT8173, for example, it is the CLK_TOP clocks that have CLK_APMIXED
PLLs as their parents, so we cannot enable the CLK_TOP critical clocks
until the CLK_APMIXED clocks have all been registered.

To find a place where all parents are registered we try each time
after we've registered some clocks if all known providers are present
now and only then we enable the critical clocks.

Subject: [PATCH v4 5/7] clk: mediatek: Add subsystem clocks of MT8173

Most multimedia subsystem clocks will be accessed by multiple
drivers, so it's a better way to manage these clocks in CCF.
This patch adds clock support for MM, IMG, VDEC, VENC and VENC_LT
subsystems.

This "mtk_clk_ex" abstraction seems unnecessarily complicated for a
one-off USB clock.
Just call mtk_clk_register_ref2usb_tx() directly from mtk_apmixedsys_init().

I'm not a big fan of this "dummy_clk".
The 'name' part of the devicetree node is supposed to be generic.
So, perhaps just oscillator@2, and move it down below clk32k: oscillator@1.
Otherwise:

Technically, this hunk is unrelated and should probably be in its own patch.

Other than these two nits, this one is:

cpum_ck is a test clock which only available in IC test. It's empty on
MT8173 evaluation or production boards. Should we name this kind of
empty clock as an oscillator? Or is there a better name for it?

They shouldn't be renumbered at all as this makes all binary device
trees out there useless. That may not be a big issue with the MT8173
at the moment as there are hardly any binary device trees with the
mainline device trees shipped, but still we should get used to not
break existing device trees without need.

in general I'm with Sascha on this regarding breaking the dt, and I guess
the empty number does not hurt this much. Another argument against
renumbering would be that the clock is there, it's just not used in the
code anymore, but the clock is acutally still there.

But on the other hand, the clock hasn't been part of an official kernel
release yet (not in 4.1), and if we want to follow protocol to the letter,
the removal of the clock id itself is already breakage, because the
binding-header is considered part of the dt and removing a constant
could already cause breakage in some universe far far away :-)

So you could try to convince the clock maintainers, that this might still
be 4.2 material. Or do a smaller patch for 4.2 like the following, to at
least follow the dt-protocol.

Please also take a look at the mt8135 clock tree, to maybe fix this
already too, before it becomes part of a release.

Subject: [PATCH] clk: mediatek: mt8173: remove unused dpi_ck clock

The dpi_ck clock is not actually used and its source isn't 100% clear too.
So remove it for the time being.

So if it will never be part of any available boards, why do you want to add
it?

Use a table to associate related constants and names is more readable,
such as:

APMIXED_EX(CLK_APMIXED_REF2USB_TX, "ref2usb_tx", ...

If we call mtk_clk_register_ref2usb_tx() directly, it will be:

clk = mtk_clk_register_ref2usb_tx("ref2usb_tx", ...);
clk_data-clks[CLK_APMIXED_REF2USB_TX] = clk;

Do you prefer the last one?

There is no non-existed clock in current MT8135 clock implementation. So
we just need to remove dpi_ck from MT8173 clocks.

I'll send a new patchset to remove dpi_ck in a small separated patch.

infra_cpum is a clock gate, and its clock comes from an external clock.
In previous versions we named the external clock as "clk_null", but it's
not accepted. A specified name is preferred even it's not available on
some boards. So I named it as cpum_ck in this patch.
