One relatively minor issue not addressed: type safe hash is in
fs/reiser4/ and not in include/linux/.

Builds and boots on ppc64 (POWER5) with the following patch, I forgot to
include siginfo.h when I added data breakpoint support. We must include
it in a round-a-bout way in mainline.

Performance improvement -- we don't need to zero all allocated memory, only a
few bytes from the beginning.
sizeof cleanup -- we want struct a *b; sizeof(*b) rather than sizeof(struct a).

I still need the following two patches against icom.c (the first
from Alan cox) applied. With these, 2.6.14-rc1-mm1 compiles and
boots on my power5 machine.

Is there any numbers? How much does this speed up save compared to
increased object size?

I don't get a /dev/input/mice device with this kernel, so Xorg reports

I have the same problem. Version 2.6.13-mm3 was OK and the new version
was only oldconfigured. When I create appropriate devices with mknod, it
is ok. So why does not udev (58 and 70) create that devices (event,
mice, mouse, wacom)?
thanks,

There is no userspace support(udev, libsysfs, HAL) for the experimental
sysfs layout of the input layer patches. We better remove them until we
all can agree on a sane layout. I don't expect it will make it into the
kernel it its current form.

I see the changes now, thanks for your quick reply.

Excellent, now I'm about to start up perf testing on 2.6.14-rc1-mm1
with and without the following patches:
mm-try-to-allocate-higher-order-pages-in-rmqueue_bulk.patch
mm: try to allocate higher order pages in rmqueue_bulk
mm-try-to-allocate-higher-order-pages-in-rmqueue_bulk-fix.patch
mm-try-to-allocate-higher-order-pages-in-rmqueue_bulk fix
mm-page_alloc-increase-size-of-per-cpu-pages.patch
mm: page_alloc: increase size of per-cpu-pages
mm-set-per-cpu-pages-lower-threshold-to-zero.patch
mm: set per-cpu-pages lower threshold to zero

Yes, Andrew, can you please drop these patches, they will cause lots of
problems with users due to the above mentioned issues.

For those of us playing along at home -
Would doing a 'patch -R' of all 30 patches listed in "Big input/sysfs changes"
be needed? Or just the 'input-prepare-to-sysfs-integration.patch' and following?

These need to go, I believe:
input-core-implement-class-hierachy.patch
input-core-implement-class-hierachy-hdaps-fixes.patch
input-core-remove-custom-made-hotplug-handler.patch
input-convert-input-handlers-to-class-interfaces.patch
input-convert-to-seq_file.patch
Or you can take your chances with
http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/stuff/2.6.14-rc1-mm1.5.gz which
is kinda rc1-mm1 without those 28 patches.

That's probably the safest.

Don't really know if stuff would still build if you only reverted that
one.

just a notice here:
I had to install udev-70 to fix the "blocked udev" problem, then
noticed the missing /dev/input/mice problem because neither gpm nor X
would start.
So I recompiled with this feature as a module ( mousedev ) and
rebooted to find udev started to create the node. ( I didn't reverse
any patches.)
Thanks.

NFS (server) is not working for me with 2.6.14-rc1-mm1, this doesn't
appear to be an NFS4 specific issue, I tried without NFS4 compiled in.
Going back to 2.6.13-mm1 works.
When trying to start NFS I get:

Cause the "udev event" works, but "udevstart" doesn't. So, if you are
lucky, the module load will trigger the events to create the nodes.

Seems to have broken networking on my x86_64 box. (previous releases were
fine). appears to boot all the way up, then sulk without talking to the
test server any more.
Boot log is here, but not sure there's anything interesting in it:
http://test.kernel.org/12937/debug/console.log
Um. buggered if I know what to do with that, save playing chop-search, which
is rather boring. I guess I'll retest to check if it's transient, but I
doubt it.

Builds and boots on my laptop. Everything seems functional except for
ethernet and wireless, which I can't test till next I make it to the office.
Whatever problem Martin Bligh hit with networking doesn't seem to affect
PPP dialup on my machine. Udev, mice, and X are all (expectedly) happy....

Humpf. reran it, and it went away. So either an intermittent failure,
or sunspots.

Hi,
This patch has fixed the following build error on MIPS.

mm/mremap.c:146: error: syntax error before ')' token

Great, thaks for that.
Do you actually run-time test -mm kernels on MIPS or do you only compile-test?

It all works for me. Would it be possible for you to generate an strace of
the failure? Something like
strace -f -o log service nfs start
Do the same on 2.6.14-rc1, compare the two traces, identify where the
failure occurrs?

I always actually run-time test it on MIPS.

The portmap client in the kernel has changed to not used a privileged
port, and some 'portmap' servers (/usr/sbin/portmap) don't like that,
so nfsd gets an error when it tries to register with portmap, and
returns that through nfssvc.
I believe Chuck is looking into it.

Is 2.6.14-rc2 OK?
Please send the .config.

It is here :o)
In one terminal:
'while [ 1 ]; do sensors; done',
in another:
'while [ 1 ]; do rmmod w83627hf; sleep 1; modprobe w83627hf; sleep 1; done'
Is fine in -rc2, but same test on 2.6.14-rc1 locked up with a busy error
a couple times on rmmod during ~ 30 seconds or so, something has changed
and improved.
Grant.

No follow-up? I wasn't able to reproduce the problem (tried on two
different systems, with several kernels each time). I consider it
solved until someone can reproduce it and explain exactly how to
trigger it.
