Part of the reason for the delay comes from my first criticism: this is an awfully big patch to review and apply in one go. (I'm not the only one to say this; I know at least one other who couldn't find the time to review this due to its size.) Is there any way you can break it into more manageable parts that can be reviewed and verified on their own? There's a good reason that this patch was left in my WIP tree with a "not complete" tag, and part of that is that I considered this to be a disorganized pile of related changes that I'd need to sort out later. Some possible categories that could be separated (use your judgment, but many of these can probably be their own patch): * migrating existing definitions to a new header (nand_bbt.h) * BIG POINT (at least for me): what did you change from my WIP patch that you "borrowed"? * adding new definitions, with a good explanation of the design (completely missing so far); e.g., what does the layering look like? * add new API definitions (with no users), with an intermediate implementation that existing users could use; the API should look the same, except you'd do something like this at first: struct nand_bbt { struct nand_chip *chip; /* <-- this won't be here later, but it helps at first */ struct mtd_info *mtd; ... }; int nand_bbt_markbad(struct nand_bbt *bbt, loff_t offs) { /* * FIXME: nand_markbad_bbt() still assumes mtd->priv is a struct * nand_chip */ return nand_markbad_bbt(bbt->mtd, offs); } * convert existing nand_bbt users (i.e., nand_base) to use this new API * convert nand_bbt.c implementation to actually be independent of nand_chip There may be more to split out, but it's a little hard to judge right now. Please let me know if you don't understand what I'm asking for, or if you have objections. I have a few small comments buried below, but I expect I (and others) will be able to review a little better once you address some of the above. > --- > changelog: > v1-v2: > Address Kamil Debski's test > Add necessary comments to nand_bbt struct > > drivers/mtd/nand/docg4.c | 8 +- > drivers/mtd/nand/nand_base.c | 145 +++++++++++- > drivers/mtd/nand/nand_bbt.c | 524 +++++++++++++++++-------------------------- > include/linux/mtd/bbm.h | 96 +------- > include/linux/mtd/nand.h | 14 +- > include/linux/mtd/nand_bbt.h | 172 ++++++++++++++ > 6 files changed, 533 insertions(+), 426 deletions(-) > create mode 100644 include/linux/mtd/nand_bbt.h > > diff --git a/drivers/mtd/nand/docg4.c b/drivers/mtd/nand/docg4.c > index e5d7bca..eb55a21 100644 > --- a/drivers/mtd/nand/docg4.c > +++ b/drivers/mtd/nand/docg4.c > @@ -1037,7 +1037,7 @@ static int __init read_factory_bbt(struct mtd_info *mtd) > * operation after device power-up.
