As CAM suggested, it would basically be a CoW, with a checksum comparison at the end to make sure no data has been corrupted. In-place: Without taking the drives or filesystem offline or unmounting them. Doing the conversion while the rest of the RAID is in use. Risky, slow, but possible, given enough time for large data sets.
