The identical hardware boots 2.4.x (currently 21ck3) without problems. I wrote down the output (see below). The machine is an Athlon-1100 with an on-board RAID controller (which I use as additional IDE controllers). I also append the corresponding output from 2.4.21 (using "hdb=scsi"), an extract of the config (hopefully including all relevant parts), and lspci output. so long Norbert 2.5.73bk1: Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00alpha2 ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx VP_IDE: IDE controller at PCI slot 00:07.1 VP_IDE: chipset revision 16 VP_IDE: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx VP_IDE: VIA vt82c686a (rev 22) IDE UDMA66 controller on pci00:07.1 ide0: BM-DMA at 0xc000-0xc007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:DMA ide1: BM-DMA at 0xc008-0xc00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:DMA hda: KENWOOD CD-ROM UCR-421 V221F, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdb: R/RW 4x4x24, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 hdd: Maxtor 91152D8, ATA DISK drive ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15 CMD649: IDE controller at PCI slot 00:10.0 CMD649: chipset revision 1 CMD649: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later ide2: BM-DMA at 0xe400-0xe407, BIOS settings: hde:pio, hdf:DMA ide3: BM-DMA at 0xe408-0xe40f, BIOS settings: hdg:pio, hdh:DMA hdf: IBM-DJNA-370910, ATA DISK drive ide2 at 0xd400-0xd407,0xd802 on irq 12 *** hangs right here *** 2.4.21ck3: Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00beta4-2.4 ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx VP_IDE: IDE controller at PCI slot 00:07.1 VP_IDE: chipset revision 16 VP_IDE: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later VP_IDE: VIA vt82c686a (rev 22) IDE UDMA66 controller on pci00:07.1 ide0: BM-DMA at 0xc000-0xc007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:DMA ide1: BM-DMA at 0xc008-0xc00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:DMA CMD649: IDE controller at PCI slot 00:10.0 CMD649: chipset revision 1 CMD649: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later ide2: BM-DMA at 0xe400-0xe407, BIOS settings: hde:pio, hdf:DMA ide3: BM-DMA at 0xe408-0xe40f, BIOS settings: hdg:pio, hdh:DMA hda: KENWOOD CD-ROM UCR-421 V221F, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdb: R/RW 4x4x24, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdd: Maxtor 91152D8, ATA DISK drive blk: queue c032dd7c, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff) hdf: IBM-DJNA-370910, ATA DISK drive blk: queue c032e1d8, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff) hdh: QUANTUM FIREBALLP AS20.5, ATA DISK drive blk: queue c032e634, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff) ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15 ide2 at 0xd400-0xd407,0xd802 on irq 12 ide3 at 0xdc00-0xdc07,0xe002 on irq 12 hdd: attached ide-disk driver. hdd: host protected area => 1 hdd: 22510656 sectors (11525 MB) w/256KiB Cache, CHS=22332/16/63, UDMA(33) hdf: attached ide-disk driver. hdf: host protected area => 1 hdf: 17803440 sectors (9115 MB) w/1966KiB Cache, CHS=17662/16/63, UDMA(33) hdh: attached ide-disk driver. hdh: host protected area => 1 hdh: 40132503 sectors (20548 MB) w/1902KiB Cache, CHS=39813/16/63, UDMA(100) hda: attached ide-cdrom driver. hda: ATAPI 68X CD-ROM drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33) Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12 ide-cd: passing drive hdb to ide-scsi emulation. hdb: attached ide-scsi driver.
