What about using one of the 3ware 7000-2/7500-4 cards? You can use it in software mode if you want. I believe the 2 port goes for about 147, the 4 port for 260ish If you have the hardware, the 7500-4 is also 64bit/33mhz capable, along with their -8 and -12 port models.
