The driver was written without support from NVIDIA, it's the result of a cleanroom development: Carl-Daniel and Andrew reverse engineered the nvnet driver and wrote a specification, Manfred wrote the driver based on the spec. Since the driver has been available and working for a while now, Carl-Daniel fitted some compat glue to make it compile under 2.4. This release it intended for developers, it's alpha quality: normal network traffic could work, although slow due to incomplete interrupt handling. It does work on two nForce 2 systems, nForce and nForce 3 are untested. Try it yourself, but don't complain if something breaks. Note that the driver generates quite a lot of debug output. Send any reports to linux-kernel or netdev@oss.sgi.com and Manfred will scoop them up. You also can download the patches for Linux 2.4.x and 2.6.x from http://www.hailfinger.org/carldani/linux/patches/forcedeth/ Manfred Spraul Carl-Daniel Hailfinger Andrew de Quincey --------------080309010502030002030601 Content-Type: text/plain; name="forcedeth_2_4_patch.txt" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="forcedeth_2_4_patch.txt" # This is a BitKeeper generated patch for the following project: # Project Name: Linux kernel tree # This patch format is intended for GNU patch command version 2.5 or higher. # This patch includes the following deltas: # ChangeSet 1.1191 -> 1.1195 # drivers/net/Makefile 1.40 -> 1.41 # drivers/net/Config.in 1.72 -> 1.73 # Documentation/Configure.help 1.206 -> 1.207 # (new) -> 1.3 drivers/net/forcedeth.c # # The following is the BitKeeper ChangeSet Log # -------------------------------------------- # 03/11/07 carldani@4100xcdt.local 1.1192 # import of 2.4 version of forcedeth # -------------------------------------------- # 03/11/07 carldani@4100xcdt.local 1.1193 # Build system glue for forcedeth # -------------------------------------------- # 03/11/08 carldani@4100xcdt.local 1.1194 # Add forcedeth 2.4 compat glue and make it compile without warnings # -------------------------------------------- # 03/11/08 carldani@4100xcdt.local 1.1195 # forcedeth: bump version to 0.15 # -------------------------------------------- # diff -Nru a/Documentation/Configure.help b/Documentation/Configure.help --- a/Documentation/Configure.help Sat Nov 8 01:29:59 2003 +++ b/Documentation/Configure.help Sat Nov 8 01:29:59 2003 @@ -12256,6 +12256,18 @@ .
