I think some work still needs to be done in libva-v4l2-request to make it really generic and compatible with other drivers (for instance, only NV12 is in there at this point, and it's hardcoded in quite some places). There are other things I'm not too happy about (e.g. I figured very recently that the approach to "deduce" logical planes sizes and offsets is problematic).
