Looking at the git history from 'commit 72c270612bd3 ("bcache: Write out full stripes")', it looks like the idea was to optimise for raid5/6: * If a stripe is already dirty, force writes to that stripe to writeback mode - to help build up full stripes of dirty data To fix this issue, make sure that should_writeback() on a discard op never returns true.
