If you've been building and installing the development snapshots from 
Linus and Andrew like I have, or installing newer RH 2.6.6 rpms, you 
may have inadvertantly turned on the SELinux option, which I suspect 
will throw a monkey wrench into the works somehow with its default 
configuration.

I am doing the bleeding edge here, currently running self compiled 
2.6.7-rc3-mm1 kernel, but I haven't enabled the SELinux options here 
as everything I want to backup is on this machines side of the 
firewall.

I've seen a few messages earlier on the fedora list about options to 
turn it off, edited into the grub.conf file as arguments to the 
kernel.  You might want to check that lists archives for more hints 
as amanda is specifically mentioned there several times.
