Date: 23 Jun 2004 16:38:27 +0200 Message-ID: <87brjaxrto.fsf@deirdre.ambre.meuh.eu.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.09 (Gnus v5.9.0) Emacs/21.3 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="=-=-=" Sender: linux-kernel-owner@vger.kernel.org X-Mailing-List: linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org Content-Length: 44439 Lines: 111 --=-=-= Hi, On one server, I'm having problem with one IDE drive attached to a Promise 20269 (aka TX2 133 I think). The disk is part of a Software RAID 1 mirror. It was running without problem since 8 june. Perhaps the disk is failing, perhaps there's a bug in the PDC202XX_NEW, but why it's lock up the complete system ? SMART and smartmontools were enabled until 21 june, I disabled them since there are some warning about SMART and Promise card: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/smartmontools/sm5/WARNINGS?sortby=date&view=markup but it doesn't solve the problem. The problems seems to occurs now with regularity each morning during the cron.daily work (Debian GNU/Linux woody), so it's probably a drive problem, but I built a disk mirror to prevent a disk crash, and if the promise card is not faulty, the RAID should be "always" running. I think my report will just be added to the long list of report about Promise cards, but perhaps information here could help people to debug this. Unfortunately, i can't do some debug job, the server is not under my "physical control".
