Ah!! the driver doesn't notify the transitions happening at initialization as it doesn't use the cpufreq interfaces to do so and booting with the performance governor just keep the frequency at it highest limit. The first cpufreq_set_policy call (and subsequent notification) in my case is performed by the ondemand governor pretty late (when the cpufrequtils script is run). [...] > Just to verify I'm not barking up the wrong tree here, could you try > building w/ CONFIG_X86_SPEEDSTEP_ICH=y instead of as a module? done, as expected things remain the same and tsc is marked unstable only when cpufreutils loads the ondemand that immediately switches to the lowest available frequency. Dmesg is attached (CONFIG_PARANOID_GENERIC_TIME=y), as always I had stalls at the known places (the 2 sleep calls done by init-scripts) at 20.88 and 22.09 thanks! -- mattia :wq! --sm4nu43k4a2Rpi4c Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=tsc_cpufreq_y [ 0.000000] Linux version 2.6.16-rc1-mm2-4 (mattia@inferi) (gcc version 4.0.3 20051201 (prerelease) (Debian 4.0.2-5)) #11 PREEMPT Wed Jan 25 16:14:11 CET 2006 [ 0.000000] BIOS-provided physical RAM map: [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 0000000000000000 - 000000000009e800 (usable) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 000000000009e800 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 00000000000c0000 - 00000000000d0000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 00000000000d8000 - 00000000000e0000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 00000000000e4000 - 0000000000100000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 0000000000100000 - 000000000fef0000 (usable) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 000000000fef0000 - 000000000feff000 (ACPI data) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 000000000feff000 - 000000000ff00000 (ACPI NVS) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 000000000ff00000 - 000000000ff80000 (usable) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 000000000ff80000 - 0000000010000000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 00000000ff800000 - 00000000ffc00000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: 00000000fffffc00 - 0000000100000000 (reserved) [ 0.000000] 255MB LOWMEM available.
