There is no locking between the two threads so this is a race condition. I think there are worse, related problems here. For example, iguanair driver allocates rc_dev->device_name and frees it in its usb disconnect handler. This field is also read by uevent, and not set to null by the disconnect handler. Not sure what the best solution is yet.
