Well, the question is whether merging it would break other things or not. Currently the sound on the laptop won't work anyway, and applying this in other tree would need the back-pull of existing HD-audio changes from sound.git tree or Linus treee, which is often cumbersome. The goal is to plumb everything up in 5.17-rc as soon as possible, and it's often faster if each tree concentrates on only the responsible bits. Takashi
