If I understand correctly, this patch avoids many issues (or at least makes them much less likely), but there is still a small possibility of corner cases where a correctly-written driver would work on other platforms but not on this hardware. Since this definitely improves things dramatically, I think it's worth doing even if it's not absolutely 100%.
