The basic problem is that I've been able to get interrupts assigned to the peripherals _only_ booting into Windows 2000 (other Windows versions won't do the trick) _from poweroff_ and then booting into Linux (I think that in fact it's a broken BIOS problem, but there are no upgrades available yet). Even then, the soundcard didn't work correctly (I think because of another IRQ routing problem). I've tested kernels from RH 7.2 (2.4.7 + RH patches), from Mandrake 8.1 (2.4.8 + MDK patches), clean 2.4.17 and 2.4.18pre1. The laptop HW configuration is the following: - Chipset VIA vt82c686b (rev 40) with PIII 1200 stepping 01, 384 MB RAM - Radeon Mobility - Accton EN2242 Series MiniPCI Fast Ethernet AAdapter (using tulip driver) - Lucent Technologies LT Win Modem (using linmodem external module) - Lucent Technologies IEEE 1394 firewire controller (OHCI compatible, using OHCI driver) - VIA 686a AC97 audio (using via82cxxx driver) - Serial port, IRDA port, parallel port - 1 atapi HD (/dev/hda) - 1 atapi CDRW/DVD (/dev/hdc) The ethernet card, the modem and the firewire controller all share IRQ 10 (together with 2 Cardbus bridge) under W2000. The sound device uses IRQ 5 together with the video card and the USB controller. Under Linux, the soundcard gets assigned IRQ 4 but it doesn't work correctly and the ethernet card, the modem and the firewire all get IRQ 0 (= IRQ not found, right?) when not coming from a previous W2000 boot. The Cardbus devices seem to work correctly (I haven't tested them, though). I've tried to figure out what's happening enabling the DEBUG #defs in "linux/arch/i386/kernel/pci-*", but my knowledge of bios32/PCI/chipset inner workings are non-existent to say the least :-( I'm adding as attachment the boot messages of a 2.4.17 kernel (with PCI debug enabled, APM, no ACPI and relevant drivers compiled in) before and after booting fresh into W2000, together with the respective output of the "lspci -vv" command. The command line was: ro root=/dev/hda5 hdc=ide-scsi I've tried also the "pci=bios", "pci=nobios", "pci=biosirq" boot options without success. Has anyone else alread been experiencing that ? Is there any fix/workaraound/gross hack ? Thanks for your time.
