Reasons to trap the TSC are numerous, but we avoid it as much as possible for performance reasons. We don't trap TSC when kvmclock is in use. We base the trapped TSC off the system clock, which keeps it in sync on SMP virtual machines, and we don't trap the TSC if the system TSC is "stable".
