I have a base install of Slackware 8.1, to which I have added kernel 2.4.19-pre10-ac2, mainly for the HPT374 controller support. The machine has 256MB of RAM, and is an AMD Duron 1.2GHz. After a bit of fiddling to get everything working, I can now see the HPT374, along with each of the hard disks (/dev/hde through /dev/hdl), and the RAID array (/dev/ataraid/disc0/disc). Fdisk created the partition correctly, and (after a reboot) it is visible in /dev/ataraid/disc0/part1. The problem comes when I try to format - giving the command: mke2fs -c -j -m 1 -v -T largefile4 /dev/ataraid/disc0/part1 Causes a Kernel Oops either when writing the Journal, or when writing out Filesystem accounting information. The Oops looks like this: ----- BEGIN OOPS Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000004 *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0002 CPU: 0 EIP: 0010:[] Not tainted EFLAGS: 000100012 eax: 00000000 ebx: cfef4cc4 ecx: c0420418 edx: c042041c esi: 00000001 edi: c042040c ebp: c1361e28 esp: c1361e1c ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Process bdflush (pid: 7, stackpage=c1361000) Stack: 00000001 00000001 cdbafc74 c1361e6c c01e04ac c042040c 00000001 00002240 cdbafc74 041c0120 c0420424 00004000 c042042c cfef4c04 c0420424 00000080 00000000 00000000 00964969 00000000 c1361e90 c01e07a3 c042040c 00000001 Call Trace: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] Code: 89 50 04 89 02 ff 09 c7 43 0c 01 00 00 00 89 73 14 c7 43 40 ----- END OOPS Running this through ksymoops 2.4.5 gives this output: ----- BEGIN KSYMOOPS ksymoops 2.4.5 on i686 2.4.19-pre10-ac2.
