I did quick testing by changing crypto_q_max and ipsec_ixs_max. Lowering the value didn't help make the page allocation problem go away. Experiment 1: --------------- *crypto_q_max changed from 1000 to 100 *ipsec_ixs_max changed from 1000 to 100 Result: Same page allocation problem Experiment 2: --------------- *crypto_q_max changed from 1000 to 10 *ipsec_ixs_max changed from 1000 to 10 Result: Same page allocation problem Also note that I am testing the sotware ipsec not using any hardware crypto driver. I did use the hardware driver (FSL's talitos) which yielded the same problem. I will debug this problem further and will let you know the result but my feeling is that something in the transmitter state machine of IPSEC is not working properly. Lastly, if you can point me to the distribution that you worked with that would be nice. -ahsan. -----Original Message----- From: David McCullough [mailto:david_mccullough@au.securecomputing.com] Sent: Thursday, November 16, 2006 5:38 PM To: Kabir Ahsan-r9aahw Cc: linux-crypto@vger.kernel.org Subject: Re: OCF - possible memory leak - page allocation problem Jivin Kabir Ahsan-r9aahw lays it down ... > Hi > I am running OPENSWAN OCF (branch v3_0ocf of git repository) on my > PowerPC target (MPC8548CDS). I haven't looked at the current v3_0ocf GIT sources, and it has obviously moved a little from my original OCF/openswan patches. Basically, ipsec_ixs_max used to be set to 1000, this meant we would queue at most 1000 requests before we started to drop packets. Depending on your free memory etc and your crypto driver implementation you may need to adjust this. If you set it to something small like 100 and you still run out of memory then either: a) the ipsec_ixs_max handling code is broken b) somethin gin the crypto driver is not behaving Also check the value of crypto_q_max in ocf/crypto.c, similar reasons, we need to limit the crypto, you cannot just queue things up forever ;-) I have done exactly the same tests without problems on older OCF/openswan combos using the ixp4xx and safe drivers.
