I have a patch for better-reassociation-for-libertas, where both SIWESSID or SIWAP trigger an re-association --- but with a delay of some hundred milliseconds. Works great with with iwconfig and wpa_supplicant. (However, I won't share this patch yet because it is completely AdHoc-agnostic).
