I have a dual core system (Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz) and use hostapd 0.6.6. I have build the kernel, compiled the compat-wireless and did a make install. Make unload didnt work because some drivers were in use (mac80211). First problem arises, a rmmod ath9k hangs the kernel. No message of what so ever in the log or to stdout. Rebooted the system (hostapd still disabled). Iwconfig shows: wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=27 dBm Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 If I start hostapd (by hand or from init.d) the kernel hangs with no trace of such thing. So I think it is hardware (system) related and ap-mode. How can I trace the problem? Default I get no entries in any log. lspci -vv shows 04:08.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc.
