We did move away from the 'one-huge-switch' command submission model, which makes it a bit harder to gate commands based on device state, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would hurt by doing it like that. i.e. would putting the check in both __lbs_cmd_async() and lbs_prepare_and_send_command() around where the priv->surprise_removed check is work too?
