Hi,
2.5.45 doesn't boot for me. I'm using a initrd to load some modules.
The last lines I see are:
(1) RAMDISK telling me it has found a image.
(2) initrd is freed
(3) Oops.
2.5.44 used to print it has mounted the root fs (i.e. the initrd)
instead of oopsing.
I can hook up a serial console to grab the exact messages if needed.

You can't please everybody. And usually if you _try_ to please
everybody, the end result is one big mess.

Yep broken here too...it's one/some of the changes in rd.c
It's dying in my code with
close(in_fd);
in_fd of course being the /dev/initrd area.

I start out with
initrd_release+0x79/0x80
But initrd_release() in rd.c hasen't changed since 2.5.44?
(Should it have??)

OK, that's my fuckup in rd.c (not on initrd path, actually) + couple of
fuckups from Pat (mine: forgot to bump ->bd_count in rd_open(), Pat's:
dropped reference to gendisk on del_gendisk(), resulting in use of
kfree'd object + tried to remove a symlink that didn't exit).
Patch below fixes these. It also changes order of blkdev_put()/del_gendisk()
in initrd_release() - better safe than sorry.
It got initrd working on my boxen...

[ patch snipped ]
Initrd works now, thanks.
The box still doesn't boot through, the initrd fails to load the ext3
module due to unresolved symbols (mb_cache_*). That issue looks like a
kbuild problem to me: I have ACL's enabled (which builds the mbcache.o
module). I also have the nfs server with v4 support enabled (which
doesn't build currently). Running "make -k modules_install" does _not_
install the mbcache.o in /lib/modules/2.5.45. I suspect this happens
due to the build error in the nfsd subdirectory.

So do I mark my problem report for initrd broken as closed, or wait until
it appears in bk?
