Hi,
my forcedeth driver said:
eth1: received irq with unknown events 0x1. Please report
It happened, when I tried to connect two machines with straight ethernet
cable.
One of the machines is a Dell Poweredge 400SC, with an intel E1000 card,
the other is a home-made one, with nvidia nforce2 chipset based motherboard,
integrated nvidia ethernet, and a 3com 905C network card.
When I connect the Dell machine to the nvidia ethernet card, I get the
"unknown events" warning, and the E1000's driver reports that the link is
down. However when I connect the E1000 and the 3com card, everything works
fine. Both kernels are vanilla 2.4.27.

Hi,
In latest 2.6, the 0x1 event is handle as IRQ_RX_ERROR.
the 2.4 driver is not synced with 2.6 and apparently a bit old.
you may consider a backport of the 2.6 driver to the 2.4 to fix the problem.
--
Tab
Hi,
attached is as backport of the latest forcedeth driver to 2.4:
It adds gigabit ethernet support and lots of bugfixes from the 2.6
driver. The most notable change is gigabit ethernet support and a
complete rewrite of the PHY initialization and media detection code.
Please test it: It works for me (nForce 250-Gb), but I don't have
a non-GigE board to test the media detection.
The actual backport was done by Jane Liu:
- all occurrences of msleep changed to mdelay
- invocations of synchronize_irq changed to take no parameters
- SET_NETDEV_DEV calls removed
- module_param call changed to MODULE_PARM

I patched my kernel, and I'm still baffled: when I connect the E1000 and the
nvidia card, both of them say the link is down. The E1000 and the 3Com card
works well. The E1000 is supposed to do polarity detection, so it should
work with the nvidia card, too. ??
Not really a problem, but I find it pretty strange.

Sorry, I don't understand your mail: Does the nic work or not? Which
tool did you use to check the link status? ethtool or something else?
