Just got 2.5.2-dj6 building today and have the following to report:
system stability is very nice. Rock solid and responsive despite it
being experimental.
I have the kernel patched in the following order:
2.5.2
2.5.2-dj6
preempt-kernel
acpi (against 2.4.17 - all mispatches fixed except for some trivia in
Configure.help)
acpi-pci-irq-routing (obtained from LKML)
The following options are passed to the kernel:
pci=acpiirq root=/dev/hda7 ro
I can send my config to anybody who needs it.
Issue 1: kernel does not compile without SMP support (missing references
to global_irq_holder in sched.c)
Issue 2: Two IEEE1934 modules needed to have "#include
<linux/interrupt.h>" added (host.c and another one I forget)
Issue 3: Turning off hotplug (/etc/init.d/hotplug stop on a Debian
unstable box - updated today) gives the following oopses (captured by
"klogd -x") - see below.
Issue 4: Unmounting the drives read-only with Alt-SysRQ-U gives the
following oops and locks the box except for further Alt-SysRQ-* (mount
-o ro,remout /mount/point works fine) - see below.
Issue 5: Mouse (via /dev/input/mice) seems slugish this time (after a
fresh cold boot). Seemed fine first few times on 2.5.2-dj6 and fine
under 2.4.18-pre7 /dev/psaux.
Hope this helps the 2.5 effort and isn't just something stupid (or a
whole lot of stupid somethings) on my part.

Possibly an issue with preempt on top of my tree. Builds fine UP & SMP
here without it.

Can you send the gcc error messages of these ?
(A patch would be nice too)

Could be related to the usb-driverfs changes, 2.5.3-dj1 is still cooking
here, but has Greg KH's updated version of this work. See if you
can repeat it later..

The ext3 related oops, hmm. Oopsing in generic_file_write seems odd.
I'm wondering if the system was in such a state at this point that the
subsequent oopses are just noise.

This is the 2nd report I've had of this. Hopefully Vojtech has
an answer for this.

It is an issue with preempt-kernel and the newest version of Ingo's
scheduler (J9). You just need to change the `ifdef CONFIG_SMP' to
`ifdef CONFIG_SMP || CONFIG_PREEMPT' or wait till 2.5-proper has that
version of Ingo's scheduler and my patch will have the change ...

Agreed. The original usb driverfs patch could be oopsed by removing the
host controller driver. Hopefully my more recent patch is more stable.
Let me know if you have a problem with that one.

I haven't seen this happen yet, I'll look into the code for explanation,
but if I don't find anything that could cause it, I'll need some debug
data.
(Enabling #define I8042_DEBUG_IO in drivers/input/serio/i8042.h is
usually good enough.)

It's really odd - it seems to be almost random when it behaves quickly
and slowly. And even within boots - I set mouse accelleration up to a
huge value to compensate for the mouse slowness but from time to time
the mouse behaved correctly and sent my cursor flying across the screen
when the same touch had just moved it a few pixels before.
Further follow up: My mouse is only intermittantly detected at boot -
had a boot today where /proc/bus/input/devices didn't show it at all.
Rebooted and it worked fine. AFAICT it's a normal PS/2 device... any
special testing I should do?

Looks like another preempt problem to me, as hosts.c doesn't
reference current in my tree fwics. The error on line 63
looks suspect too.
You may also get away with include sched.h instead of interrupt.h
(which indirectly includes sched.h amongst other things).
