all i know is that since i've been using 2.4.x kernels i have not been
able to burn audio cd's
data cd's work fine, but not audio cd's, whats up?
You have sound in the Kernel, meaning ALSA or whatever?

Have you recompiled cdrecord with a 2.4 kernel ? I've noticed some problems with cdrecord compiled for 2.4 but used with 2.2. As far as I know cdrecord includes some header of the kernel.
