Subject: 2.5.33 -- make[1]: *** [char] Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I have included output from make, strace -f -F -v -q make,
ver_linux and the Char section of .config. I hope this
will be sufficient. I don't see anything in the output
that makes it clear what is crashing and why.

Subject: Re: 2.5.33 -- make[1]: *** [char] Segmentation fault (core dumped) -- SOLVED

It appears that something in my recent updates
for RH 6.2 messed up my copy of `make'.
I downloaded make 3.79.1, built and installed
it and now the build continues happily.
