Subject: [PROBLEM] D-Link DFE-580TX: Only 3 Ports working

Hello kernel-developers (esp. Donald ;) )

I am experiencing very strange problems with the
"D-Link DFE-580TX 4 port Server Adapter" in our enviroment.

The kernel can only use the first three Ports. The forth Port
is detected but reports some problems with the MII-Transciever.

It should not be a NIC-hardwareproblem (used a second one - same
problems).

But read with your own eyes:

eth2 to eth3 are working without any problems.

I don't have any idea what the reason could be.
Maybe some of the almighty kernel hackers have. ;-)

have a nice week.

I have the same card, but used only 3 ports up to now, just tried the 4th - it
worked.

Is it possible that you ran out of pci config space, i/o space? I don't quite
understand why your 4th port moved to 0xbe00 (after 3rd is 0xb000) ...
Can you play with the pci slots a bit (exchanging the cards)?

I've seen this too. Actually I think it's H/W design problem...

Cheers.

Just for the record, I am using this card (infact 6 of them in one
machine, totalling 24 interfaces). All interfaces appear to work just
fine.

I'm using v1.09 of the driver though. Have you tried the latest one from
http://www.scyld.com/network/sundance.html?

It's clear BIOS bug. All four controllers are sitting behind PCI-to-PCI
bridge which blocks IO access to the ranges 0xb100-0xb3ff, 0xb500-0xb7ff,
0xb900-0xbbff and 0xbd00-0xbfff due to PCI_BRIDGE_CTL_NO_ISA mode.

Does this patch help?

Yes. It works fine. Thanks for your help.
At the moment I am stress-testing the NIC and it seems to be very
fine. If not I will repost.
