Subject: Nightly usb oops

My machine crashes almost every night with this oops. I've finally
managed to catch it before it was totally gone.

This looks like a usb device was unplugged and plugged back in.
What devices do you have connected?
What host controller driver are you using?
What happens to the machine at this time of night (cron jobs, etc.)?
What is your .config?
What kernel is this (and if 2.4.0-test10, does this also happen on
2.4.0-test12-pre4)?
What kind of processor is this?

In short, lots more info needed.

thanks,

greg k-h

Hi,

What kernel (test10)?
> -m /boot/System.map-2.4.0-test10 (specified)

What compiler/version?

Please post a list of your USB devices from
/proc/bus/usb/devices .

Are you inserting or unplugging a USB device when this happens?
If not, are you doing anything with USB when this happens?

Thanks,

I'll try pre4 tonight and see (could take up to 48 hours).

This is what I'm getting with test11 in my syslog (at least what I was
able to catch)

Thats a deskjet 932C on the other end. I don't even use it in linux
:-(

As for pulling anything out of the hub, I'm not touching anything and
its securely plugged into the wall on a UPS.

<disconnect and reconnect repeating snipped>

Ouch! Unplug that printer! Either the printer connection is bad, or
your hub that the printer is plugged into is bad. My guess is on the
hub. Is this hub powered from an external power supply?

You also might want to try a different port on that hub to see if that
is any better.
