Subject: bonding driver - linux kernel

hello,

i have an HP Procurve 4000M and a linux box with an Intel Pro/100 Dual
Port Server Adapter (eepro.c). we have the switch set to do cicso
etherchannel, which the procurve supports. but it seems not to work in
this mode. we have to back down to trunking mode, giving us 200Mbit
upstream, but only 100Mbit down stream.

I was curious if it had been tested with any HP switches, or any non
cisco switches for that matter that support cisco etherchannel. i was
also wondering if this is not the case if anyone has written a patch, or
is planning to write one to correct this.

if not, me and my colleague and i are willing to take a crack at it.
however we have limited experience at something like this, but are eager
to get into it.

any help or direction is apreciated. thanx.

Don't know what the problem can be, but as you seem interested in the
code, apart from the bonding driver in official kernels, there an
alternative (and more featureful) implementation here:
http://sf.net/projects/bonding/

It is a patch against recent 2.4.x kernels (lat 2.4.13). Apart from
traditional bonding/trunking (two or more cards give you aggregated
bandwith) it implements "link failover". Give it a try :)

I thought only the 8000M could do etherchannel.

Hmm i've got the same dual port card, but an Intel 550T L3 routing switch,
i'll give it a try sometime next week. I was going to try the linux
2.4.10-ac bonding driver but can't recall why i didn't. I'll tell you how
it goes when i give it a bash.
