Subject: 2.4.17-pre5 "make bzImage" fails

Hi,

I switched from 2.4.16 to 2.4.17-pre5 without changing config and now
"make bzImage" fails with the following error:

did you upgrade your binutils recently?

Yes, I upgraded to binutils-2.11.92.0.7-3mdk from Mandrake cooker today.

That's the problem I had same version. I did rpm -Uvh --oldpackage of the
old versions of binutils, libbinutils and it compiled fine

The problem isn't binutils, it's the kernel. binutils let the kernel
get away with it before, that's why it compiles fine on older versions.

get 4mdk it should be fixed there. (please: discus mdk problems on mdk ml's).
