[1.] One line summary of the problem:
Kernel 2.4.x oops with reiserfs on kdeinit
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
Oopses appears after updatedb scripts when loading KDE.
Updating/reinstalling kde, updating gcc, kernel, reiserfsprogs, recreating
reiser fs doesn't change situation. Replacing sda - same effect.
Switching to ext2 - no oopses detected.
Same problem was found described in other mailing lists.

There is series of oops, it is first:
ksymoops 2.4.0 on i686 2.4.17. Options used
-V (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.4.17/ (default)
-m /boot/System.map-2.4.17 (default)

assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get

Hm. But there is no reiserfs code in the calltrace.
What I can say is that in d_lookup() this code falls:
tmp = tmp->next;
because tmp is NULL. (which means the our list is broken, right?)
I do not know how things went into this state, though.

You mean you are able to reproduce this reliably?
Can you reproduce on 2.4.18-pre6?
If yes, I believe VFS folks would be interested.

It just looks like a standard memory-corruption crash. We're
seeing these on a daily basis - far too many for it to
be hardware problems. I'm collecting them, trying to
pick a pattern.
Berjoza, please send your .config and a description
of what sorts of things the machine is being used
for (network server, firewall, etc).
