[+ indicates stuff that went to Marcelo, o stuff that has not,
* indicates stuff that is merged in mainstream now, X stuff that proved
bad and was dropped out, - indicates stuff not relevant to the main tree]
The HP merge is now down to 3503 lines pending
IDE status
Chasing two reports of strange ide-scsi crashes
Still some Promise glitches - need to review merge carefully
Need to double check SiS code versus older SiS code.
Sometimes we now turn DMA off excessively for simplex devices
No corruption cases except known hardware incompatibilities
that broke before
The insmod of IDE drivers isnt in yet. I've been rather busy so it didn't
make the time. However anyone who wants should be able to fill in the
other bits of the ide pci driver registration logic to finish it off.
Once I get a bit of time I'll resync with Marcelo and push him various
updates.

Its doesn't understand that I indeed am using 80 pin cables for
the drives connected to my Promise 20267 controller. Also, it would
be nice to clean up the formatting on the "80-pin cable" message to
keep it from wrapping.

BTW, I took a look over the ide layer. Its looking much nicer
already. BTW CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD_BAILOUT doesn't seem to be
applied to anything at the moment...

Erik,
I am working on the logic changes in the separtation of code.
It is very likely I got some thing backwards but it is easy to test.

dunno. linux.20pre2-ac6/drivers/ide/Config.in has
+ dep_mbool ' Reduce media failure retries support' \
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD_BAILOUT $CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD
but no code uses it... So I figured I'd mention it,

Lemme resend that jewel.

There is a detection logic error somewhere in the promise driver. Its on
the list to look at if Andre doesnt find it or solve it when he splits
the promise into two drivers (old and new style). If 2.4.20pre2-ac2
worked then it won't be too hard to chase out.
Hi Alan, Andre,
I have tried all 2.4.20-pre2-acX and found them stable until I tried to
burn a CD with -ac6...
the burner is an ide device, and after reading the changelog I decided to
give it a try:
I used cdrecord (via Xcdroast) and the burning never started due to the
fact that a kernel bug appeeared and the first cdrecord instance became a
zombie and the second got stuck in D state.
meanwhile (after the bug) the kernel was spitting out these messages
(around 4-5 a second):

SWEET, that give me a comparison point to check.
Please try with DMA off on the burn to isolate if net logic in the changes
is bad or if it is the DMA engine part.

That don't seem to change anything... I have reported an oops with
2.4.20-pre2-ac3 also with IDE:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=fr&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=20020816181957.GA14157%40ulima.unil.ch&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Dfr%26lr%3D%26ie%3DISO-8859-1%26q%3D2.4.20-pre2-ac3%2Boops%26btnG%3DRecherche%2BGoogle
Is there something I could try?
Thank you very much,
Gr?goire

ok update:
not only is it not possible to burn, reading a cd also fails:

hope this helps
