For an even longer list, run the attached ach (Analyse Configure.help)

Anything missing? Just ask. 18-pre4 does that mount smoothly. Besides this glitch,
20-pre5-ac4 "feels" a bit more interactively responsive..

which non-free modues (NVidia?) were loaded on your computer? Is the
problem reproducible without any non-free module loaded _ever_ since the
last reboot? If it's still reproducible then please run the output through
ksymoops as described in Documentation/oops-tracing.txt.

Not sure I'm having the same, but having a DVD in my drive when I log
in to gnome (rawhide, running 2.4.20-pre5-ac4-preempt) it locks solid,
caps lock blinks steadily, and the disk light blinks two short bursts
and a long break). I'll give it a spin to build without preempt later
today to see if it persists. In addition, I got this BUG when trying
to use cdrecord on same kernel just now:

lapper:~$ ksymoops < oops.1
ksymoops 2.4.5 on i686 2.4.20-pre5-ac4-preempt. Options used
-V (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.4.20-pre5-ac4-preempt/ (default)
-m /boot/System.map-2.4.20-pre5-ac4-preempt (default)

Warning: You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will
assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.

Ops, completely forgot that, vmware 3.1.1, I'll get it built without

Which non-free modues (NVidia?) were loaded on your computer? Is the
problem reproducible without any non-free module loaded _ever_ since the
last reboot?

You only think this is a free country. Like the US the UK spends a lot of
time explaining its a free country because its a police state.

Ahh, I see. vmware tainted the kernel. Will retry without later today.

I've seen this trace without nvidia etc loaded too. Right now the problem
I have is that I can't duplicate it. If my box would jut blow up the same
way all would be well 8)

What compilers are being used by the folks who see the problem ?

Here we go, 2.4.20-pre-ac4, same crash, this time there's no vmware
and no preempt:

lapper:~$ ksymoops < oops.2 itten
ksymoops 2.4.5 on i686 2.4.20-pre5-ac4. Options used
-V (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.4.20-pre5-ac4/ (default)
-m /boot/System.map-2.4.20-pre5-ac4 (default)

Warning: You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will
assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.

Ok same compiler. So its something on the ide-cd/ide-scsi side I don't
trip. Curiouser and curiouser

it happened to me, different compiler different system, different cause

after loading (using modprobe) sr_mod, ide-scsi and sg in that order I tried
to mount a cdrom but this resulted in a Segmentation Fault and a kernel oops.

Oops and system info below

I would just like to add a me to. At least this happened with out fail
with 2.4.20-pre5-ac{1,2}. I never tested 3 on this machine. But now I
am running ac4 and it seems to be working fine, until I try to use the
cd-rw at all, then it locks the in the D state and leaving the terminal
I was running it on in the R state. Also my cd-rw drive is locked and
will not open. All I can find in my logs is an error message:

I have hdb=scsi passed to my kernel at boot. I still have both of the
pre5-ac{1,2} kernels laying around if someone would like any work done
on them(I just didnt have anytime to be messing with them when I
originally compiled them). Also under aci and ac2 I passed hdb=ide-scsi
but I changed that after seeing a recommendation to on the list to
hdb=scsi when I compiled and installed ac4.
