I run linux-2.5.44 on a SMP x86 system. (see full dmesg and .config
below).
When I try to get it to shut down, there seems to be an endless loop
while scanning the global_device_list().
I've hacked device_shutdown like this:
void device_shutdown(void)
{
struct list_head * entry;
int i = 0;
printk(KERN_EMERG "Shutting down devices\n");
down(&device_sem);
list_for_each(entry,&global_device_list) {
struct device * dev = to_dev(entry);
printk(KERN_EMERG "found device in global_device_list present %d ID '%s' name %s head %08lx entry %08lx next %08lx prev %08lx\n",
device_present(dev),
dev->bus_id ? dev->bus_id : "<none>",
dev->name ? dev->name : "<none>",
&global_device_list, entry, entry->next, entry->prev);
if (device_present(dev) && dev->driver && dev->driver->shutdown) {
pr_debug("shutting down %s\n",dev->name);
dev->driver->shutdown(dev);
}
if (i++ == 128) goto out;
}
out:
up(&device_sem);
}
Which means it dumps useful information, and doesn't try forever.
The following loop is present at the end of the output:
scsi0
0:0:1:0:gen
0:0:1:0
0:0:2:0:gen
0:0:5:0:gen
0:0:5:0
scsi0
and then it repeats itself.
I hope you can do something with this bug-report.
Kind regards,
Jurriaan
