Subject: 2.5.59 doesn't boot - hangs after 'Uncompressing the kernel'

I can't get 2.5.59 to boot on my dual tualatin/via PRO266T system.
It hangs early in the boot-process, I don't see anything after the
'Uncompressing the kernel' line. The keyboard led's stuck then as well,
and waiting doesn't help.

gcc -v:

Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/3.2.2/specs
Configured with: ../src/configure -v --enable-languages=c,c++,java,f77,proto,pascal,objc,ada --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/include/c++/3.2 --enable-shared --with-system-zlib --enable-nls --without-included-gettext --enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-java-gc=boehm --enable-objc-gc i386-linux
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.2.2 20030109 (Debian prerelease)

this gcc worked with 2.5.58, BTW, and the .config below worked also.
I've tried removing preempt (worked with 2.5.58), framepointer (worked
with 2.5.58) - but 2.5.59 won't boot. Any hints?

Thanks,
Jurriaan

People have problems after recent changes in vmlinux.lds.

Try apply the vmlinux patch from Andrew's set of patches:
http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/2.5/2.5.59/2.5.59-mm2/

Usually report is an oops, but that may be UP only.

No change, both 2.5.59-mm2 and 2.5.59 + the mm2 vmlinux patch hang just
in the same way.

This is on a Debian/Unstable system, btw.

I have the same problem here, I tried 2.5.59 + vmlinux.patch. I'm Debian/testing.
BTW, 2.5.58 didn't go further too.

Subject: Re: 2.5.59 doesn't boot - hangs after 'Uncompressing the kernel'

I get the same thing here. My system isn't Debian though, it's RH7.3

More exactly, I get:

Booting 'Red Hat Linux (2.5.59)'

root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.5.59 ro root=/dev/hda3 hdd=ide-scsi
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400,usize=0x0ec3d1]

Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.

<wait 3 minutes and then press the boot button>

I am running RH7.3 with:
Configured with: ../gcc-3.2.1/configure --enable-shared --enable-threads
--enable-checking=gc --prefix=/usr/lib
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.2.1

and an updated glibc 2.3.1, binutils-2.13.2.1, reiserfsprogs-3.6.4
(and am currently running 2.4.21-pre3-2420ide-1 built with the above).
