I just reboot. Suspend in any form scares me, to be honest... Besides,
booting up this machine and going into Gnome is faster than just starting
up a user in WinXP (came preinstalled, need it once in two blue moons...)

That's you. I depend on suspend, not just on my laptop, but on all my
(modern) machines. It preserves context, in a browser for example.

Poor support for suspend is something you'd only expect to find in a
substandard operating system.
