Subject: [alpha] link failure in 2.6.1-rc1

Happy new year!
I finally decided to jump onto the 2.6 wagon, but unfortunately compilation
failed:

This is an dual-alpha ev6 box (compaq DS20),
gcc version 3.3,
GNU ld version 2.14.90.0.7 20031029

I found thread about a similar problem in the archive
<http://lkml.org/lkml/2003/9/3/149> but the topic didn't seem to be
resolved there.

any thoughts?
