Subject: BK 2.6.1 Kernel

Hi there,

System is a Thinkpad X31, Pentium-M with 512MB RAM.

Today I pulled the latest change-sets from
http://linux.bkbits.net:8080/linux-2.5 and
http://linux-acpi.bkbits.net:8080/linux-acpi-test-2.6.1 and built that
kernel. (.config available on request).

This kernel does boot, ish... It gets as far as loading the ACPI modules
towards the end of the boot procedure, then locks the machine up
completely. Alt+SysRq+{s,u}, does not work, Alt+SysRq+b does reboot the
box, so not a complete hard hang with loss of interrupts etc.

There is no debug output as the machine hangs so suddenly. Side effect
of this hang is that the /var filesystem, reiserfs, gets halfly hosed.
Ordinary fsck fails and I get dropped to a shell to fix it manually. I
am using LVM2 and device-mapper for the filesystems, and my compiled
2.6.0 kernel still works, so I will use that for the time being.

If there is any patches for ACPI, I will happily try them.

Cheers,

Does the acpi in stock 2.6 work on your laptop?

In 2.6.0 it does, yes. Will bk export the 2.6.1 baseline and build today
and test that. Will write again when done.

Hi there,

I am now running the stock 2.6.1 kernel, still extracted from the
bitkeeper repository though. Not a problem, ACPI and the whole lot is
working fine.
So there must be something in the changes made between 2.6.1 and
yesterday.

HTH,

Is that the taged 2.6.1 release, or does it have patches integrated after
that tag?

Try with a tarbal from kernel.org instead.

That is the tagged 2.6.1 release. I looked at what change set
(1.1474.2.29) the Makefile was in when the change from 2.6.1-rc3 to
2.6.1 took place, and exported that. I could take a kernel.org tarball,
but the result will probably be exactly the same.

2.6.1 works.

2.6.1 + bk changes from
http://linux-acpi.bkbits.net:8080/linux-acpi-test-2.6.1 and
http://linux.bkbits.net:8080/linux-2.5 up until Monday 19th at about
12:00 GMT does not.

Boot params, configuration, everything as similar as can be.

Will do that in the morning. Almost bed-time here. :)
