Subject: [BUG] 2.6.7: serial console misbehavior on dual Opteron

Hi,

In 2.6.7 the serial console behaves quite strangely on a dual Opteron box.
Namely, if it is declared in the kernel command line, eg.

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.7 root=/dev/sdb3 vga=792 console=ttyS0,115200 \
console=tty0

in the GRUB config, but is not actually present (ie. nothing's connected to
the serial port), the kernel will not boot until it is connected. Moreover,
if it is disconnected at any time after boot, the kernel will freeze until
it's reconnected.

Attached are the kernel config and the hardware info log.

Yours,
rjw
