Seems to be related to APIC interrupt startup, yes? Did any earlier 2.6
kernel work correctly?

The same chipset seems to run fine here, so perhaps this information may
help?
AOpen DX34-U dual S370 motherboard, dual P3 1.26 GHz.
It's an somewhat oem board, not sold to end users, so I have place to
download newer bioses or such, and the bios is somewhat lacking - I
can't setup anything regarding to MPS, for example.
2.6.10-mm1 and earlier works fine, with apic on.
lspci, .config and dmesg follow.
Here's lspci:

PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing
** PCI interrupts are no longer routed automatically. If this
** causes a device to stop working, it is probably because the
** driver failed to call pci_enable_device(). As a temporary
** workaround, the "pci=routeirq" argument restores the old
** behavior. If this argument makes the device work again,
** please email the output of "lspci" to [email protected]
** so I can fix the driver.

I'll leave that assertion to somebody with more knowledge than me, but it
seems related to APIC, yes.
Sorry, I've only tried 2.6.7 through 2.6.10, but I'll try some earlier 2.6
versions today, although I don't expect anything else to happen, since this
problem also occurs on 2.4.
I'm sorry, I don't know how to gather more information which could be helpful
for debugging if I can't even get into a shell ...
is there a kernel parameter or something like alike to collect more debugging
information ?
