Just found another issue. Sometimes (say 1 of 10 tries), I get freeze
(nothing is logged at all), when I press ctrl-c just after starting
tse3play. I cannot freeze it with pmidi-1.6, so I'm not sure it is rtc
related at all. My tse3play is from tse3-0.3.1

http://tse3.sourceforge.net/

I'm playing midi file to qsynth.

I was able to reproduce this by running oss2jack with -d option too.
oss2jack -d option daemonizes it. If I run oss2jack without daemonizing,
everything works and i'm not getting BUG at all.

Could you send me your .config. And this is a smp machine right?

Thanks,

No it is not. Sending you my config personally.

The reason that I asked is that sched.c:659 looks like this:

static inline void dec_rt_tasks(task_t *p, runqueue_t *rq)
{
#if defined(CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT) && defined(CONFIG_SMP)
if (rt_task(p)) {
WARN_ON(!rq->rt_nr_running);
rq->rt_nr_running--;
if (rq->rt_nr_running == 1)
atomic_dec(&rt_overload);
}
#endif
}

And so that will only get into that path on a SMP configured system. But
although you are not running on an SMP machine, here's what's in
your .config.

CONFIG_SMP=y
CONFIG_NR_CPUS=8

Although this should not bug, and I'm going to try this config on a UP
machine myself to see if I can reproduce your problem, I'd suggest to
you to turn off the SMP configuration.

Unfortunatly this is not option for my setup, since I use same kernel on
multiple systems (kind of livecd but with usb disk). One of them is SMP
one. I'm currently doing audio only on one of machines and it is
uniprocessor one. I prefer to avoid triggerring this bug instead of
having multiple kernels.

Understood.

Does this bug on your SMP machines?

Also where does it crash with cdrecord? My UP test machine does not have
a cd-burner. And I, unfortunately, don't have time now to put one in.

Will try to crash SMP ASAP, I'm not able to do tests now.

I do erase/burn of 210 MiB rw disk. Erase is done without crash.
I use version 2.01.01a03 of cdrecord.
It crashes when burning:

http://nedko.arnaudov.name/tmp/rt-cdrecord-crash.jpg

Same crash occurs when I run oss2jack with -d option.
It does not occur when running without -d option (daemonize).

Nedko,

Could you try either the patch below, or the link
http://home.stny.rr.com/rostedt/patches/patch-2.6.15-rt2-sr2
which has the patch included, to see if this fixes your problem.

Thanks,

OK, I think this is it. Without the patch, the attached program crashes
the system. With the patch, it runs fine. I believe that cdrecord and
friends were forking processes with RT priorities. Which would crash the
system.
