- Should also be available at:

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/smurf/linux-trees.git

browseable at:

ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/smurf/linux-trees.git

thanks to a script which Matthias Urlichs <[email protected]> has
prepared. I haven't tried this, so please let us know how it goes.

- Patches were added and removed. Nothing very exciting.

Boilerplate:

- See the `hot-fixes' directory for any important updates to this patchset.

- -mm kernel commit activity can be reviewed by subscribing to the
mm-commits mailing list.

echo "subscribe mm-commits" | mail [email protected]

- If you hit a bug in -mm and it's not obvious which patch caused it, it is
most valuable if you can perform a bisection search to identify which patch
introduced the bug. Instructions for this process are at

http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/stuff/bisecting-mm-trees.txt

But beware that this process takes some time (around ten rebuilds and
reboots), so consider reporting the bug first and if we cannot immediately
identify the faulty patch, then perform the bisection search.

- When reporting bugs, please try to Cc: the relevant maintainer and mailing
list on any email.

The broken out patch set for 2.6.16-rc2-mm1 is not applying for me.

The very first patch, linus.patch, has 74 FAIL'd files. Just pulling
out the failing lines, I see some 180 lines of output, beginning with:

Applying patch linus.patch

Looking hastily at the arch/arm/mach-s3c2410/Makefile, it looked like
linus.patch was trying to add gpio support to a Makefile that already
had it.

However ... I've been having a bad hair day with source control. So,
if the above looks like operator error, it probably is.

I don't see any reason for __gdth_execute() being global.

There is no good reason for struct async_queue being global.

Additional, this patch adds some missing whitespace.

When compiling with gcc 4.0 and CONFIG_SMP unset, there are tons of the

Thanks, I've updated my patch locally and once I've gotten positive
testing feedback I'll send along the updated variant.

Hello,

radeonfb ignores the video= parameter and always run at 1400x1050 (the
highest available). Things where fine with .16-rc1-mm5.
I also tried booting with 640x480-32@60 without success.

# fbset -s
mode "1400x1050-60"
# D: 108.003 MHz, H: 63.983 kHz, V: 60.021 Hz
geometry 1400 1050 1408 1050 8
timings 9259 136 40 13 0 112 3
hsync high
vsync high
rgba 8/0,8/0,8/0,0/0
endmode

Oh, however running
fbset -xres 800 -yres 600
works when the system is up.

This is the relevant dmesg snippets:

Try this patch.

Thanks, now working as usual. (BTW: my ISP smtp is blacklisted so my
messages won't reach linux-fbdev-devel)

The master branch seems not correct. It should be v2.6.16-rc2-mm1, but
it is v2.6.13-rc4-mm1 or something.

There is a 2.6.16-rc2-mm1 tag in there. Perhaps Matthias could describe
how things are organised, recommendations for how people should use that
tree?

"v2.6.15-mm3" actually.

We should use "tags" for particular releases, and just one "master" branch.

The master branch does not make much sense. The problem is that you
cannot update it -- the -mm tree is always built from scratch.

On the other hand, cleaning that up makes sense; I'll set "master" to
the current -linus version in my script.

I got the following BUG with the tulip driver because there's a mdelay(1)
at the end of the tulip_media_select() function. Removing the mdelay(1)
is trivial so I've attached a patch, but I'm not sure if it's the
correct fix so I've CC'd Jeff Garzik.

I tried it, but did not figure out how to use tree after cg-clone...

It might not be. And the knowledge of which cards this will bust and why
may be lost in the mists of time.

So I suspect we're stuck with this irqs-off latency in here.

(The warning patch in -mm is only permitted once per callsite, so it's a
harmless irritant).

Its wrong, and further we don't need obvious spam email addresses in the

Hi,

2.6.16-rc2-mm1 is running fine on my IBM notebook, but the hdaps module
(acceleration sensor) does not work like I expected:

,----[ modprobe hdaps ]
| Feb 11 21:24:26 nimrais kernel: hdaps: inverting axis readings.
| Feb 11 21:24:26 nimrais kernel: hdaps: IBM ThinkPad T41p detected.
| Feb 11 21:24:26 nimrais kernel: hdaps: driver successfully loaded.
`----

AFAIK the module should create sysfs files in
/sys/devices/platform/hdaps/, but I see only `bus', `power' and
`uevent'.

When unloading the hdaps module, I get a BUG:

Thanks, I'll drop hdaps-convert-to-the-new-platform-device-interface.patch,
which very likely to have caused this.

You could try reverting that patch (wget

; patch -p1 -R < hdaps-convert-to-the-new-platform-device-interface.patch) or please test next -mm, let us know?

This fails:

At hunk 4/5, the patch expects `down_trylock' and `up', while
`mutex_trylock' and `mutex_unlock' are used in the actual file, I think.

I will try next -mm anyway, because although the fsck-errors caused by
ext3_getblocks are not harmful, they make me nervous ;-)

Hi,

I have been using 2.6.16-rc2-mm1 for a couple of days on my laptop and
tonight it was particularly slow. After shutting down firefox, X and
pretty much every user application, free was still saying:

ubik:~> free -l
total used free shared buffers
cached
Mem: 508592 502948 5644 0
7056 25084
Low: 508592 502948 5644
High: 0 0 0
-/+ buffers/cache: 470808 37784
Swap: 506512 86260 420252

ps is almost empty, but /proc/slabinfo (see attached file for the
complete output) has some weird lines:

sock_inode_cache 644184 644202 448 9 1 : tunables 54 27 0 : slabdata 71578 71578 0

inode_cache 1216 1232 360 11 1 : tunables 54 27 0 : slabdata 112 112 0 : shrinker stat 2103424 2101400
dentry_cache 647419 649830 128 30 1 : tunables 120 60 0 : slabdata 21661 21661 0 : shrinker stat 5027712 2374200

.config is also attached.

Regards,
Alexandre

Well it _could_ be caused by an errant application. But if it just started
happening, it's more likely the kernel. There are related changes in
Dave's tree.

You could try `echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches' to see if they're
reclaimable.
