Subject: Tyan Tiger MP AMD760 chipset support

Since Alan Cox wrote months ago:

> 2.4.7ac should be up to date on it

with reference to AMD760 (IDE?) support on a Tyan K7 Thunder,
I was somewhat surprised to find the chipset:

AMD-762 North bridge & AMD-766 South bridge
Winbond W83627HF Super I/O ASIC
Winbond W83782D hardware monitoring ASIC

only partly recognized by my 2.4.9ac18 based kernel.
One problem is that the temperature sensors are not detected
(I'm reluctant to torture my system if I can't watch out for
it overheating).

Does anyone know the AMD760 support status? Any pointers
for (experimental) patches?

Here is the lspci -vvv output:

Look into the lm_sensors patch; it supports many such hardware
monitoring chips, and I believe that yours is one of them.

That's not the issue, I'm not that ignorant. sensors-detect
just doesn't find anything!

Upgrade to the cvs version of lm_sensors and the i2c drivers.

I can with these modules detect the eeprom, the AMD756 and the
winbond W83782D.

But, however, inserting the winbond driver locks the computer hard.

I've had the same problem with two Tyan Thunder K7 motherboards, inserting the
winbond driver locks the computer hard. However booting with the "noapic" option
solves this. Ideas anyone ? Are the AMD erratas publicly available ?

I have had no problems with my ThunderK7 lpci -v below

Yes they are avaliable from AMD's website (PDF)

It's a bug in the lm_sensors winbond driver. There's been a patch posted
in the bugtracker but afaik hasn't been integrated into cvs yet...
