Hi!
Wouldn't it be smart to but a welcome message into the FTP directory of the
2.4 kernel that gives hints what problems there are with the latest kernel
(loop problem in .14, etc ...) and what patches are there to apply for
fixing it.
I think this would help a lot of people who are not reading this mailing
list and would save the mailing list of a lot of repeating mails (think of
the loop problem).
I think this would be a good step forward.

And for those who don't bothering reading the little bit if message that
scrolls across their screens when they log in?
Point being, we could go on and on about trying to warn people. The
emails will still come.

And the response would be "See the Welcome Message in the FTP directory" or
"See the notice on the home page" (assuming the suggestion of having a
hotlink on http://www.kernel.org point to a "necessary patch" page).
Yes, the emails will still come, but after a while people will catch on and
the quantity of such emails will lessen.
