Subject: Sound, RS-232 serial fails on dell latitute D620 notebook...

This is probably a Dell problem, but I'm hoping someone on the list has
seen similar behavior before.

Sound input and RS232 serial input do not function on a Dell Latitude D620.

Details:
- Fedora Core 5 installation, running vanilla kernel.org 2.6.16.16 and
2.6.18, results
are identical. Sound input times out with an I/O error, no serial
input characters are
ever seen. I've tried with and without acpi, apic, and irqpoll,
and see no different results.

Can anyone point me in some general direction? I have no problem
hacking around in
kernel source, but a good start never hurts :-)

Thanks for any assistance.

It's not familiar.

Did any kernel ever work correctly? Tried a 2.4.x kernel?

Please send the full dmesg output.

Could you try alsa-driver 1.0.13rc3 available on http://www.alsa-project.org?
It's identical with the ALSA codes in the latest linus git tree, and
can be built on 2.6.16, too.

For sound input, you have to choose the right capture source.
If you still have sound problems, please report it on ALSA bugtracking
system (follow from alsa-project.org main page).
