[1.] One line summary of the problem:
every two minutes a "__alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=0x21/0)"
message.
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
After ~5 days of running without problem, the kernel begins to print the
following message, exactly twice every two minutes (see section 7.7 for a
sample):
kernel: __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=0x21/0)
During this, the machine works as good as usually, and finally after ~ 1.5
days, hangs. The problem arises using kernel from 2.4.23 to 2.4.26. No
problems with kernel 2.4.21 (uptime up to 100+ days). I did not try 2.4.22.

Interesting. I had been seeing the same until yesterday where I updated
to
2.4.26. I explicitely tried reproducing it in order to compose a usable
problem report on the l-k mailinglist but couldn't.
The problem on my machine was that I could trigger some memory leak by
rsync'ing between two local IDE disks which would eventually eat up all
of the systems memory without the possibility of recovery forcing all
other processes into swap or having them killed.

/proc/scsi/gdth/1'. I have posted a bug report to linux-scsi.

No such hardware here, so this might as well be different bug
which is also exposed by the proc filesystem.
