deactivate_urbs didn't return the number of still-active URBs when not

its own counting anyway.

Generic drivers
Steve deRosier <[email protected]>:

* There is a user selectable flag droponfull. Set to 1 and
any new bytes delivered to the driver after the buffer fills
up will be discarded until the buffer is able to flush some
bytes.
* If droponfull==0 (or is not set, the default is 0), the driver
proceeds to block further input by not calling
snd_rawmidi_transmit_ack() and aborting the attempt. It will
try again later.
* I've redone a bit of the interface for the buffer routines.
This was done to support the proper blocking/non-blocking methods
as spelled out above, and to try to protect the buffer data a bit.

Good! Looking forward to testing it next week (can't do it sooner,

I've tried this code with 2.6.1-mm1 and it results in my speakers
emitting a small high pitched noise when it's not busy playing audio,
using the intel8x0 driver. I'm using the onboard sound on my nForce2
based motherboard, here is the information in dmesg (not a lot,
admittedly) when i load the driver:

intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 49457 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 47478

Otherwise it still seems to work OK.

It seems to work here. I found that the new ALSA drivers change or
activate new mixer options, thus causing background noise. Once I
fixed the mixer values, all was well.

Still doesn't work on my TerraTec 6fire LT.

This seems to be something far more insidious.

When the CPU is under load, the buzzing disappears.
When something else is using /dev/dsp, the buzzing disappears.
When I reboot to 2.6.1-rc1-mm1, the buzzing disappears ;)

Any idea what is going on? And plus, even when the buzzing is gone,
there is a lot of static in played music, etc. It's overall not a good
listening experience. I know this could be due to the fact that I use
onboard sound but since it worked just fine in 2.6.1-rc1-mm1 I don't see
why it should be screwed up in 2.6.1-mm2.
