Your ext3 filesystem is being built as a module, so you are dependent upon
correct initrd setup to be able to mount the other filesystems. If those
filesystems were not cleanly shut down, ext2 will not be able to mount them.

Or something like that. Try setting CONFIG_EXT3_FS=y.

I do have EXT3_FS=m

But I did a correct initrd build, / mount is ext3, and gets mounted ok,
but not the other partitions or disk, and the get mounted manually
without any other requierment (i.e. modprobe scsi)
Thanks for the reply
Max

Try it with "y"

You haven't set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD

It's probably mounted as ext2. Check /proc/mounts.

As I reported in the same thread as the breakage of modules in 2.5.59,
module autoloading doesn't work for me since 2.5.58. Using Rusty's
module-init-tools 0.9.8 or 0.9.9-pre. Same utils work flawlessly under
2.4.21-pre3.

I can't run PPP, mount iso9660 CDs, run IrDA - anything modular needs
manual modprobing in both 2.5.58 and 2.5.59 + Kai's fix.

my problem is probably different:
2.5.58 is ok but when i boot 2.5.59 it hangs after issuing
Mounting local filesystem...
/dev/hde7 on /usrtype ext2 (rw)
Nothing in the logs, same config and tools as 2.5.58 !

Module autoloading works fine for me, including PPP and getting
all isofs/cdrom/ide-scsi/etc stuff loaded when mounting a CD.

If you're running a RedHat system, you'll also need the following
patch to /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit. Without it the kernel's modprobe and
hotplug functionalities will be disabled by rc.sysinit.

(RedHat users should also comment out or remove the /sbin/update line in
/etc/inittab, but that's unrelated to the use of modules.)

Indeed, I'm running a RedHat 8.0 and this change to rc.sysinit brought me
up and running again. Thanks !
